The article presents results of main experimental studies of the thermal treatment influence on the change of pine and ash wood properties. Methodos and results of experimental studies of the basic physical and some mechanical properties of thermomodified wood in an industrial kiln are described. It has been determined that the decrease of the shrinkage and moisture absorption was observed to a greater extent in the heat treated ash. The negative effect of high temperature on mechanical characteristics of wood is established.
