Roman Vasylyshyn

Biography

Roman Vasylyshyn was born on 10 August 1981 in the  Chornyi Potik settlement of Nadvirna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. He is a citizen of Ukraine.

Higher Education

In 2000, he graduated from Storozhynets Forest College in Bukovina. 

In 2004, he graduated from the National Agrarian University (currently the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv) with a “Forest Management” specialisation, “Master of Forest Management” qualification.

In 2005-2007, he finished full-time doctorate course in 2005-2007 on the faculty of agricultural management of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine Defended a doctoral dissertation on the “Agricultural Management” specialty.

In 2010-2013, he finished a higher doctorate course at the same faculty. Defended a Doctor of Philosophy in Agriculture dissertation on the “Agricultural Management” speciality in 2014.

Scientific, educational and methodical activity

In the period 2007-2010, he held the position of vice-principal of the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine .

Occupied the position of assistant (2005-2007), and senior lecturer (2007-2010), and was a member of the Department of Forest Management since September 2010 – was a senior lecturer. Occupied a position of a senior lecturer on a faculty of agricultural management throughout the year after the higher doctorate courses and from December 2014 is a professor to this day (as well as a part-time position since May 2023).

Was an acting head of the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management from 2015-2023.

In May 2023, he was appointed by order of the rector of the university to the position of director of the Education and Research Institute of Forestry and Landscape-Park Management, where he was working since then.

Vice-president of the Dissertation Committee at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine

An author and co-author of more than 350 scientific and scientific-methodological articles, including 7 scientific pamphlets, 21 monographs, 5 regulatory and production handbooks and more than 80 patents and copyright certificates. Under his guidance, 3 candidate dissertations were defended while 5 doctorate and higher doctorate candidates work on their dissertations.

R. Vasylyshyn is a leading scientist in the sphere of ecology, energy, and forest management, researching forests’ biosphere role evaluation and their energy potential. These are aspects related to the study of the laws of dynamic processes of growth and productivity in forest plantations of the Ukrainian Carpathians and the development of theoretical and practical foundations of forest bioenergy in Ukraine. During 2008-2014 R. Vasylyshyn was the principal investigator of the international project “Biomass Energy Europe” (BEE), and a participant in the international project “GESAPU Geoinformation technologies, spatio-temporal approaches, and full carbon account for improving accuracy of GHG inventories”, which was implemented jointly with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis within the framework of the European Commission's seventh framework programme FP-7. He also completed an internship as part of the Summer Programme for Young Scientists at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) (Laxendurg, Austria).

For the efficient organisation of the educational process, training of highly qualified specialists, scientific achievements and implementation of scientific developments in production, he was awarded a diploma from the State Committee of Forestry of Ukraine (2008), an honorary watch from the Chairman of the State Committee of Forestry of Ukraine (2010), acknowledgement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2015), acknowledgement of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Science and Education (2018), a Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2019), a Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2020), a Diploma of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2020).
